Pet Cafes

South Korea has the third highest number of working hours per week in the world due to the huge rise in economic success over the last few years. This leaves a big demand for stress-relievers and one answer is the ludicrous pet cafes they have here. There are dogs, cats and sheep cafes. I found one in Hongdae, a district of Seoul, that was a 'meerkat cafe', so obviously I had to go. There were wallabies, a racoon and two arctic foxes. I wasn't so keen on the arctic foxes being there, but honestly the other animals did seem content and domesticated. And we were allowed to feed these animals, as well as sit in a pen in the middle of the cafe and spend time with the meerkats that love to climb up and perch on your shoulder or scurry under your legs. It was weird. But it did make me think about the demand for these cafes due to the vast amount of working hours, 500 more than the average UK worker, with everything open 24 hours a day these cafes are apparently needed for more than a tourist attraction.
