Seoul Fashion Week and Jeonju International Film Festival

We managed to get tickets into a catwalk in Seoul fashion week- a huge event here and recognised globally, as fashion is of huge interest in Korean culture and is highly competitive here. We went to a show of the brand Fleamadonna . There was a ticket stand where people picked up their tickets they had been given exclusively to guests. I might have bent the truth- saying our tutor at Hongik University had said to us we would be able to collect tickets here. They didn't ask any questions and gave us some of the spare tickets - i felt a bit bad as to how trusting they were!

When in Jeonju later in the semester, we got tickets through more honest methods to the International film festival held there. We managed to get tickets to the closing ceremony and film. The ceremony celebrated plenty of Korean film stars and directors and various crew. We then saw the closing film in a huge hall altogether- Wes Anderson's 'Isle of Dogs'. We thoroughly enjoyed the film- it lived up to his usual cooky style of directing and unique art direction. The use of music and awkward cutting are some of my favourite features of mine of his films and this lived up to it. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the idea of him appropriating Japanese culture. I enjoyed the film and whilst I am not Japanese and cannot fully understand this feeling, i felt that the movie was simply put in a setting of a time and a place used to act as a satirical story that to me, reflected some of the ridiculousness of the treatment of refugees and migrants.
