It is time for us to decide what we want our final project to be. I decided that I wanted to make a interactive application that would be educational about a current and relatable issue we face today. A lot of my projects so far have been ocean orientated (spongebob and the sunset projects) and so I thought I could take inspiration from the ocean visual. And then I thought about the recent articles about the damage the plastics we have been damping in the ocean is doing to sealife above and below waters, as well as the damage done to us.

This affects a huge amount of sea turtles, sea birds and mammals every year, with an estimated 100,000,000 tonnes of plastic being in our oceans. And with an added 8,000,000 plastics every year. I think this would be fun to visualise and to create a game that emphasises the huge scale of the problem. But I don't want the game to seem too morbid, I still want it to be enjoyable and not be taken too personally but rather to be an educational tool.

See my storyboard and proposal above.
I would want the start screen to appear and have the plastics as a GIF, and in the screens with the ocean, for the plastics to be floating and moving gently. I thought that having everything as a drawing except the plastics would make the plastics look less appealing compared to the illustrations. In the fourth box, you can see a timer appears in the top left and the scale appears on the left, which will rise as the player collects more plastic. With a message above it reading "just __ more to go!", showing the player the ridiculous amount of plastic left to collect. I think this part of the game will be a massive challenge for me. Then once the timer ends, the screen would show saying "Great job! But.." and then it would display a generated fact about the consequences of plastic waste in oceans. Then the next screen would say "Difficult?" with a button reading "try this instead". Then the last screen would display a simple solution to the problem (e.g. using recyclable straws). I want to try and start with a simple idea, and see how I am able to make the game work and make it more complicated if I am able, but I think this will be a huge challenge as it is.
